10 Crazy Star Wars Theories That Might Not Be Quite So Crazy

1. Padmé Was Palpatine’s Hidden Apprentice

It is one of the most popular theories to circulate the Star Wars fandom, which is surprising when you consider that it involves the ever loved Jar Jar Binks. The claim is that the gangly Gungan is actually a Sith Lord who, by ingratiating himself with Padmé Amidala positioned himself to give the speech that leads to Palpatine becoming Emperor. It is a fun theory, but the real hidden villain, so an alternate theory goes, is the lady diplomat herself.

Recall that in Episode I, it is Padmé‘s call for a vote of no confidence that sees Valorum being deposed, only to be replaced by Palpatine. Later, in Episode III, it is she who leaves Jar Jar to speak in her stead, knowing that under pressure he would vote for the man he knows – Palpatine.

Not convinced? Many fans have commented that Anakin and Padmé’s romance feels forced. What if it was? What if, upon meeting Anakin, Padmé realizes his potential – along with his crush on her – and relays this information to Palpatine who, recognizing a powerful apprentice when he sees one, instructs her to strike up a romantic relationship. The pay off? Anakin’s nightmares, which push him to the Dark side.

While Palpatine does, inevitably, betray her, it makes a fiendish kind of sense that one of the most innocent people was secretly one of the most devious.
