10 Crazy X-Men Ideas Fox Had Before Marvel Got The Rights Back

5. X-Men/Fantastic Four Crossover

Back in 2010, Fox started putting plans in place to adapt the Civil War comic books (beating Marvel Studios to the punch by six years) in a film pitting the X-Men against the Fantastic Four. Daredevil and Deadpool were also set to be included, but the project never got off the ground, and the studio instead decided to move forward with X-Men: First Class.

Despite it stalling, plans for some sort of crossover remained in place, with The Thing once set to appear in Deadpool 2. 2015's Fantastic Four flopping didn't help matters, of course, but it's believed that chatter about some sort of versus movie continued behind the scenes, and likely would have happened after Marvel's First Family were rebooted again.

Honestly, it's shocking that Fox failed to make this crossover happen in all the years they held the rights to the two teams, but there's no denying that had it eventually taken place, it had the potential to be a fun, weird movie...which probably would have been only okay in the studio's hands?
