10 Creepiest Children In Horror Movies

8. Village of the Dammed (1995)

Village Of The Damned 1995 John Carpenter
Universal Pictures

John Carpenter remade this 1960 film about an American village that is visited by an unseen force causing ten women to become mysteriously pregnant.

The children are quickly unsettling by their appearance in that they are all emotionless, with the same white hair and blue eyes. The fact we don’t know where they came from, what they are or what their intentions are mean that we can’t react to them in a predictable way. Their confidence and intelligence make them un-nerving as this is at odds to their young appearance.

The reveal that they have telekinetic and telepathic powers is frightening enough, but this is taken to another level when paired with the fact that they do not appear to have any problems with hurting people to get their way.

Knowing that they can tell what people are thinking and punish them for it is also terrifying as we are all guilty of uncontrolled thoughts that we wouldn’t want other people to know. The scene where the doctor is trying to hide his thoughts from them in order to destroy them is incredibly tense, and he only just manages to hold out in time.

At the core of this film, it plays on a parental fear of what would happen if your child didn’t like you and the guilt if you ever thought of hurting them.
