Christine, a loan manager at a bank, refuses to give some old hag a mortgage extension, which naturally turns out to be a big mistake. The woman curses her with a demon to make her life uncomfortable and to eventually drag her to hell. I know that this is a Sam Raimi film, and I fully recognise his talent on the Evil Dead films which represents all that is good about horror movies, but Drag Me to Hell doesn't possess an iota of the charm and the scares that made the Evil Dead series so engaging. Listening to the critics bang on about how great Drag Me To Hell is, brings you incredible sorrow when you actually watch the film. The scary moments aren't scary - they are generic horror hokum that wouldn't frighten a mannequin. Christina is not a good, sympathetic heroine, and frankly it's hard to care if she gets dragged to hell and back a hundred times over. There is not much of interest in the film and the line between laughing with the director and laughing at the director is blurred. I wouldn't even bother to watch the film out of curiosity. It's a total waste of time, effort and money.
My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
