10 Criminally Underrated Monster Movies
6. From the Dark
Another disarmingly simple set up which is made all the more effective by its bare bones presentation (and another Irish flick!), many might see 2015's sparse From the Dark as a step backwards for Stitches director Conor McMahon.
After all, where that 2012 comedy slasher saw the director attempt a more ambitious story, this more paranormal remix of 2013's In Fear follows only a pair of characters, a young couple, throughout its runtime as they're stranded in the remote depths of rural Ireland.
However, as the lost and increasingly desperate couple face some sort of ancient evil accidentally uncovered in their unknowable surroundings, McMahon's assured direction mines the simplicity of the set up for some fantastic set pieces before even revealing his much-awaited monster.
