10 Most Cringeworthy Kisses In Movie History

8. The Upside Down Kiss €“ Spider-Man (2002)

Once in a while, a film will have a scene that is so unforgettable it elevates instantaneously into the cultural consciousness and, of all the many famous scenes in the Spider-Man films, there is really only one that has had such an impact: Mary Jane and Spidey€™s upside down kiss from the original Sam Raimi Spider-Man film. After Tobey Maguire becomes Spider-Man, Mary Jane (played by Kirsten Dunst) develops a crush on the web-slinger after he saves her life a few times. After Spider-Man saves her life yet again the two share a passionate upside down kiss in the rain. While the scene has gone down as one of the most iconic moments of the Spider-Man franchise, it hasn't aged all that well. With the rise of internet memes and parodies, the scene seems a little silly in retrospect. Also, add in the fact that once we got introduced to Gwen Stacy in the newer films (who actually does stuff, and is an interesting character) we all realized that Mary Jane was merely in the mix to look pretty. Mary Jane Watson isn't a character, she's a character's girlfriend, somebody for Spider-Man to pine over. And no scene exemplifies this more than the "iconic" upside down kiss. Though, if you still enjoy the scene purely because you get to see Kirsten Dunst's nipples on full display, nobody could really be mad at you for that.
