10 Critically Reviled Action-Horror Movies (That Weren't Actually That Bad)

8. Freddy Vs Jason

Van Helsing 2004
New Line Cinema

Two horror icons battling it out for supremacy... what could go wrong?

Released in 2003, Freddy Vs Jason is a monster mash that is hilariously fun. The story actually has quite an intriguing hook, with Freddy Krueger being forgotten about meaning he will eventually cease to exist. From there, he brings Jason Voorhees back to wreak havoc, thus bringing the fear back to Elm Street.

Robert Englund makes his final appearance as Freddy in this film and he is at his most over the top. Quipping in almost every line, he makes for a very sadistic villain. The film frames Jason as the hero of the film, while also being the powerhouse and against the more nimble Freddy.

The fight between the two is actually quite creative, with part of it taking place in Jason's dreams and the rest in the real world. This manages to pit the two against each other quite nicely with each character having a home-field advantage.

With it being a slasher horror film, there is of course some terrible acting and questionable CGI. But as a horror crossover event, Freddy Vs Jason doesn't deserve the hate it often gets.
