Critics Consensus: "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice smothers a potentially powerful story -- and some of America's most iconic superheroes -- in a grim whirlwind of effects-driven action."

A movie that fans had been waiting years to see, Batman v Superman saw two of DC's biggest stars unite for the first time in live-action movie history as the pair squared off in Warner Bros.' DC Extended Universe. Unfortunately, it failed to live up to expectations with its overwhelmingly grim tone, muddled story and battle-heavy sequences taking away from everything this could have been.

But Batman v Superman isn't the lost cause that many would have you believing it is. It's grim, yes, but majestically so - giving it an odd larger-than-life presentation - and it's because of this that it actually feels like you are watching two mythical creatures collide. The battles may be long, but both of the main showdowns are spectacles worth watching - with the former managing to recreate one of the most legendary comic book match-ups of all time.

As for the muddled story? Well, that can be sorted by watching the extended Ultimate Edition - which is a far more coherent film than the theatrical release.
