Critics Consensus: "While the cast is outstanding and the special effects are top-notch, the latest installment of the Spidey saga suffers from an unfocused narrative and an overabundance of characters."

The Amazing Spider-Man is one of the most underrated superhero movies of all time because it doesn't deserve or warrant some of the criticism it once received. Its sequel may be another story entirely but that doesn't mean that it deserves its spot on 'worst of' lists either.

The 2014 film commits a lot of sins in the midst of its two-hour run-time but its biggest is undoubtedly repeating the same mistakes that the aforementioned Spider-Man 3 did seven years earlier. Those mistakes stem from the fact that it simply has too many characters and not enough time to juggle all of them. And thus, there is too much going on and narratives are left without closure.

That said, the film is still a very enjoyable one at that - simply because it carries on much of what made its predecessor so charming. From the stunning set pieces to Spidey's awe-inspiring city-swings, the film certainly adopts a larger-than-life approach worthy of its titular character. And speaking of him, Andrew Garfield is better than ever, bringing what is perhaps the most comic-accurate Peter Parker to life as he and Emma Stone's chemistry steals the show time and again throughout.
