10 Critically-Reviled Comic Book Movies (That Weren't Actually That Bad)

Critics Consensus: “Suicide Squad boasts a talented cast and a little more humor than previous DCEU efforts, but they aren't enough to save the disappointing end result from a muddled plot, thinly written characters, and choppy directing.”

Once upon a time, the notion of Suicide Squad ending up on a list like this seemed unfathomable. The studio had done such a bang-up job with the trailers that it genuinely seemed like DC were about to pull off a pop-culture phenomenon akin to Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. But instead of that, we got a generic 'heroes must stop the beam in the sky story' in a film with characters who were anything but heroes.

Among the film's biggest shortcomings were Jared Leto's portrayal of The Joker, the awful villain and the horrid CGI-Enchantress debacle that did Cara Delevingne absolutely no favours. It's far from what we were promised, but was the film so bad to warrant the barrage of negativity it received? In a word: No.

For all its faults, Suicide Squad is still an entertaining romp that showcases the talents of Margot Robbie, Viola Davis and Will Smith. It's never going to win any awards (y'know aside from the Oscar that it did), but if you can accept the fact that it overlooked a more compelling character-driven affair in favour of bland CGI spectacles, it's actually alright.
