10 Critically Reviled Sci-Fi Movies (That Weren't Actually That Bad)

5. King Kong Lives

Critics Consensus: N/A

Okay, so King Kong Lives doesn't actually have a Critics Consensus on Rotten Tomatoes because the film is so lost to history that most critics have probably forgotten it even exists. The sequel to the 1976 King Kong film, it failed to make an impression on moviegoers anywhere near the likes of which its predecessor did, as it bombed at the box-office.

This is definitely one that even the most positive of critics would probably group into the 'so bad, it's good' category and if you're one of those critics, then this writer applauds you.

King Kong Lives is wrapped in endless layers of cheese and corniness that even the admittedly-campy '76 film did not possess, and it was so darn outlandish that even the idea of a centuries-old giant ape scaling a skyscraper felt more believable than any of the shenanigans that took place here. But it has so much fun being that outlandish, giving us all a chance to see Kong find true happiness as he comes across (wait for it) Lady Kong.

It's loud, cheap-looking and, again, very cheesy, but it's also surprisingly heartwarming and very, very enjoyable. Seriously, whether you watch it for the laughs, action, fun or even the, yes, emotion, it's worth checking this all-but-forgotten gem out.

Don't listen to the critics, King Kong Lives is big dumb light-hearted fun.
