10 Dark Harry Potter Scenes That Were Excluded From The Films

2. Death Eaters Torturing Muggles

The Quidditch World Cup was a massive part of the fourth book and arguably the moment the Harry Potter series took a dark turn. The film did show the Death Eaters terrorising everyone at the World Cup, though the movie did leave out a critical part of their terrorist act.

As the Death Eaters moved through the campground, they kept a family of Muggles hanging in the air by their ankles, with their underwear showing, their bodies being “contorted into grotesque shapes”, and the youngest child spinning like a top.

Although there was no use of the three unforgivable curses, the intention to parade the Muggle family around like that was to humiliate and cause them pain. The family that was targeted by the Death Eaters was the Roberts family, of whom the witches and wizards were using their property to host the Quidditch World Cup.

Members of the Ministry of Magic were able to save the Roberts family from the torture the Death Eaters were putting them through, but they had to cast an extremely powerful memory charm on each of the family members, which left Mr. Roberts dazed once again.
