10 Dark Harry Potter Scenes That Were Excluded From The Films
1. Neville's Parents At St. Mungo's
In the fifth book, while visiting Arthur Weasley at St. Mungo’s hospital (a hospital for magical maladies and injuries), the Golden Trio and Ginny Weasley run into Neville Longbottom visiting his parents, in turn finally learning the truth as to why he lives with his grandmother.
We find out that Neville’s parents were tortured by the Cruciatus curse into insanity by Bellatrix Lestrange and her followers after Voldemort’s first downfall. Due to this torture, Neville’s parents now do not recognise him and have been living in the hospital since the torture took place.
Both the Order of the Phoenix and The Goblet of Fire films briefly mention what happened to Neville’s parents, but they never go into detail – nor do we ever see the state they were left in.
Neville is embarrassed for his friends to learn the truth about his parents, but his grandmother tells him he should “be proud” of their sacrifice (a line that was referenced in the film).
In a bittersweet yet heartbreaking moment in the scene, we see Alice, Neville’s mother, walk towards him and offer a candy wrapper as a gift, which Neville keeps as a reminder of his parents.
