10 Dark Theories About Family Movies That Actually Make Sense

2. Home Alone: Kevin McCallister Grows Up To Be The Jigsaw Killer

Saw Home Alone
Fox/ Lions Gate

Cute little Kevin McCallister gave us plenty of laughs when he outwitted inept burglarising duo the Wet Bandits with a series of crafty traps in Home Alone and again in its sequel, which was pretty much the same set-up except with the action transferred to New York City.

While it was all in the name of comedy, you’ve got to think that being the brunt of your family’s teasing and being abandoned by them not once but twice would have a detrimental effect on a young, impressionable mind like Kevin’s. In fact, abuse and neglect are common themes in the childhoods of people who grow up to be serial killers.

Kevin’s childhood trauma combined with his penchant for building intricate, pain-inducing traps has led Reddit user Jordoom to conclude that he grows up to be none other than James ‘Jigsaw’ Kramer, the murderous antagonist from the Saw franchise.

Think about it: Jigsaw’s MO was all about putting people who he deemed were wasting their lives through deadly traps to test their will to live. In the first Home Alone film, Kevin puts the Wet Bandits through the wringer and they’re eventually whisked off to jail for their crimes.

Although they’re given a shot at redemption, by the sequel they’re back to their burglarising ways as soon as they’re released proving they’ve learnt nothing and once again they face the wrath of Kevin and his booby traps.

Kevin aka Jigsaw’s motive and method was clearly established early on in life. We’re blaming his mother.
