What lengths would you be willing to go to for money? Would you slap a dancer in a strip club on the ass for twenty bucks? Punch a bouncer for five hundred? How far would you go for fifty thousand? This moral conundrum is the one posed in Cheap Thrills, one of the year's best independent movies. The two hapless friends caught up in this dilemma after meeting a rich couple in a bar one evening eventually find themselves arguing over who is going to get to cut their own finger off for a stack of $100 bills - and at this point you're barely half way through the film. Things, clearly, can get much worse. One cringe-worthy moment comes when they're faced with a plate of the recently killed neighbour's dog, served raw, uncooked with fur still showing. Whoever finishes first gets the money, and the two gobble it up as quickly as possible, trying their best not to vomit. Unfortunately it's a draw, so their host ponders on what they can eat next. For the tie breaker? The finger, cut off by one of the men earlier in the film. What dark and twisted movies scenes stood out for you in 2014? Why not let us know in the comments below?
