9. Fright Night
From rom coms to horror coms! David stars in the 2011 thriller Fright Night, a 3D remake of Tom Holland's 1985 film, which tells the story of a teenager who suspects that his new neighbour is a vampire. We've all been there. David doesn't play the vampire unfortunately (although how
cool would that be?!), but he still has a role to get your teeth into - figuratively speaking - as he joins the impressive cast ensemble, including the likes of Colin Farrell, Toni Collette and Dave Franco, as Peter Vincent, a leather-clad, foul-mouthed stage illusionist who also just so happens to be a world renowned vampire killer. Handy, right? As the self proclaimed Master of Darkness, Peter has experienced his fair share of supernatural shenanigans in his time which means he comes fully equipped to take on the latest outbreak of vampiric victims. His arsenal includes a trench gun, a curved knife and, naturally, wooden stakes.
Never forget the wooden stakes. The film was received generally well upon its initial release with critics praising its performers, particularly David, for standing their own against the original. You're bound to love it if you're a fan of gore and there's a nice balance between scares and laughs so at least it's not 106 minutes of unadulterated bloodshed. More's the pity.
