10 DC Comics Movies That Almost Happened

8. Sgt. Rock

Sgt. Rock would be a valuable addition to the DC Extended Universe. An army sergeant who exists in a world of superheros would be a unique twist on the genre, but all of his previous film outings have stepped on a landmine on their way to cinema.

Between the late 1980s early 1990s, Arnold Schwarzenegger was sought to play the military man on screen, which makes absolutely no sense since Rock is an American G.I. and Arnie is quite clearly Austrian.

For obvious reasons, that project was court-martialed but producer Joel Silver spent the next two decades attempting to get a Sgt. Rock movie rolling, with Guy Ritchie attached to direct.

Bruce Willis was, at one point considered for the lead role, but Ritchie bowed out when he took on the Sherlock Holmes franchise, and there hasn't been an official update since 2010 when Silver announced the film's setting was being switched from World War II to a near-future conflict.

So don't expect to see a Sgt. Rock film anytime soon, but there's a chance he could crop up in the DCEU in some capacity. In the comics, he's served as Lex Luthor's chief of staff while the villain was president, and had a stint in the Suicide Squad.
