10 DC Comics That Would Make Perfect Animated Films

1. Identity Crisis

Superman Kingdom Come
DC Comics

Sometimes (all the time) things get super dark in the world of DC comics. Identity Crisis is one of those incredibly brooding storylines that weighs heavy on the viewer’s heart. However, the team over at Warner Bros. Animation has shown in the past that they’re not afraid to bring up adult themes.

Identity Crisis is filled with real adult trauma and deep philosophical questions of what is right and wrong. The past and memories are big ideas that thread this story together in a gritty view of superhero success. Viewers are forced to watch the icons they grew up with turn to powers that corrupt their moral standing. Redemption feels like a long way off in this series.

Trying to adapt this film into a live-action movie will not work. The concept and the characters involved in the plot are too ingrained in secondary storylines. Superman and Barry Allen are no heroes in this story, and casual fans react poorly to news like that.

Identity Crisis works better for an audience of fans used to DC’s ability to infuse drama and mistakes into pristine heroes. The animated stories show time and time again that they handle stories like Identity Crisis with care and grace. Only the animation studio can fulfill the hefty goals required to make this one a success.
