10 DC Heroes Who Deserve Movie Deals (And Who Should Play Them)

2. Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) - Elle Fanning

Alicia Silverstone tried her best as Batgirl in the naff-fest that was Batman & Robin, but the result was still a shoddy hard-to-like film. It€™s time that the character was given another chance on the big screen, especially given the popularity that Batgirl comics have enjoyed in recent years. The key to getting it right would be to establish this version of Batgirl as the daughter of Commissioner Gordon (the Batman & Robin version was Alfred€™s niece, for some reason). This would make her decision to dabble in vigilante crime-fighting all the more personal, adding deep layers of storytelling potential. For example, a cinematic take on Barbara Gordon could see the young woman torn between Batman and her father, with their conflicting methods and ideologies vying for her preference. This could make for an engaging character drama at the heart of a superhero story. And if this goes well, Barbara could transition from supporting character to the headline act of a solo movie. You€™d need a talented young actress to pull this off: one that could handle drama, action, and special effects, as well as possibly cracking the occasional joke. Elle Fanning tackled the supernatural, and in last year€™s Trumbo she offered up an impressively nuanced character-driven performance which raised a few laughs too. She'd be perfect.
