10 DC Movie Deleted Scenes You Need To See
5. Watchmen: The Death Of Hollis Mason
Zack Snyder's Watchmen was the cinematic equivalent of Marmite, splitting fans and critics straight down the middle.
There are those who adore his stylishly faithful take on the seminal graphic novel, while its opponents dismiss it as lacking in heart and soul. This criticism, however, may not have held up if Hollis Mason's death scene had made the original cut.
The sequence, which was reinstated for the movie's director's cut, shows the original Nite Owl in his final minutes. He enjoys a sweet phone exchange with Sally Jupiter in which they reminisce about their golden age crimefighting careers before a gang of thugs invade his home and murder him.
Hollis puts up one hell of a fight despite being outnumbered and relives his glory years during the battle, every punch containing echoes of a scrap with a supervillain from yesteryear until he can resist no more.
It's a powerful, hard-hitting sequence that not only dials up Watchman's pathos, but also put some of the fantastic costume designs for the classic villains to good use.
