10 DC Movie Deleted Scenes You Need To See

3. Constantine: John's Exorcism

Batman Forever
Warner Bros.

Constantine wasn't a great movie. It had all the flavour of communion wafer and Keanu Reeves was all wrong for the lead part, but its DVD did come with an array of interesting deleted scenes.

Strangely enough, Hollywood talent ended up on the cutting room floor this time as actress Michelle Monaghan was cast as the protagonist's half-breed demon lover Ellie, only for all of her scenes to be nixed.

Many of them turned up on the home media release, and the pick of them is an assortment of flashback sequences which explain how the Constantine family attempted to deal with John's ungodly elements.

First they subject him to electric shock therapy and later an exorcism. One scene even depicts a young John attempting suicide, albeit unsuccessfully.

This particular sequence would have brought some much-needed characterisation to the table, as would the others involving Monaghan. She was removed to make Constantine a lonelier character, but a relationship, however twisted, would potentially have made him a more interesting and relatable one.
