10 DCEU Revelations From Zack Snyder

5. Knightmare

One of the most hotly debated sequences in all of Batman v. Superman's runtime is the Knightmare sequence. In the middle of the film, Bruce seemingly falls asleep, only to have a vision of a post-apocalyptic Mad Max-ian future. Superman has turned evil, with his own army of soldiers and Parademons, with only Batman and a ragtag group of would-be heroes left to try and stop them.

When Bruce comes face to face with Clark in the dream, Clark tells him "she was my world" and the Flash later warns him that "she is the key". At the time, this all seemed to be indicating that a future film would be looking to kill off Lois Lane and sure enough, Snyder all-but-confirmed this theory on social media.

When a fan asked Snyder if the Knightmare sequence was actually an alternate timeline where Bruce never formed the Justice League to combat Steppenwolf, Snyder responded by saying:

"or if someone lost someone close to them they might become susceptible a certain equation and might blame a certain Bat for events that a too soon Bruce would know nothing about".

In layman's terms, Lois was going to die, making Superman blame Batman for it and making Supes more susceptible to Darkseid's infamous Anti-Life Equation.
