10 Deaths That Ruined Horror Movies

5. Sam - I Am Legend (2007)

Thirteen Ghosts Dennis
Warner Bros.

Neither the best nor the worst zombie movie of the century, I Am Legend was hot s**t on initial release in 2007, and has since neither dwindled into obscurity nor seen itself secure the longevity of 28 Days Later (2002) or Shaun of the Dead (2004).

Will Smith stars as Dr Robert Neville, a post-apocalyptic survivor who gets by in an abandoned NYC with the help of his trusty German shepherd companion Sam. He spends his days and nights listening to Bob Marley, sleeping in the bathtub, and hunting the zombies -- or, vampiric, albino, cannibal mutants, to be exact. But when Sam is bitten by one of the creature's dogs, she begins to show signs of infection and Dr Neville has no choice but to put her down himself, with, uhh, his bare hands...

If you're going to kill an animal onscreen, you'd better have a damned good reason for doing it. And, even if you do, you'd better be prepared for the audience to hate you anyway. It's not right and it's not okay, and having to watch Will Smith choke a dog we've all come to love puts the nails in the coffin of what is already a pretty dreary and miserable hundred minutes of screen time.
