10 Deaths That Ruined Horror Movies

4. Colin Ritman - Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018)

Black Mirror's Bandersnatch movie was not the metafiction revolution that many supposed it to be prior to release. Like one of those books you had as a kid where you're sent to different chapters depending on your choices, it gives the viewer the option to participate but ultimately doesn't live up to or beyond the sum of its parts.

And by far the most compelling of those parts is Colin. Played with relish by Will Poulter, the video game designer is quirky, pithy and far more interesting than main character Stefan (Fionn Whitehead), or anyone else for that matter. He acts as a guide for both the viewer and Stefan into the world of the game, the film and the various narrative choices available.

Unfortunately, most of those choices result in Colin's death. The character is wasted on a number of strange and unnecessary endings that exclude him from further scenes and sequences, leaving us and the on-screen action at a loose end. Sure, we can keep pushing through the jangly and loosely assembled parts to some kind of a resolution, but without Colin what's the point?
