5. Alex Browning - Final Destination 2 (2003)
The first Final Destination movie changed the horror genre forever with its innovative genre twists, inventive death scenes and ingenious premise.
At the end of the film, protagonists Alex Browning (Devon Sawa) and Clear Rivers (Ali Larter) are able to escape Death's clutches and come out the film undeniably traumatised, but alive and well.
For those hoping to see more of Alex and Clear in action for the sequel, though, Final Destination 2 had a cruel surprise in store. Not only was Clear almost a completely different character, but she was barely around. Worse still, Alex had been killed off-screen, with only a small newspaper cut-out put in place to explain his glaring absence.
It was a shock reveal and a character omission that ended up hurting the film more than expected. The sequel watches like a tired re-tread of that first movie, and its characters never live up to the high bar Alex set as a series lead.
