10 Delayed Movies That Will Land In 2021 And Still Bomb At The Box Office
6. Space Jam: A New Legacy
Nostalgia can only get you so far, and if you take off the rose-tinted glasses and really look at Space Jam, you'll soon realize that it isn't a very good movie. Fans have been demanding a sequel for almost a quarter of a century, but it remains to be seen if they'll actually show up and make A New Legacy into a hit.
LeBron James might be one of the most famous athletes on the planet, but he still doesn't have the overwhelming global appeal that Michael Jordan did at the time, even though his brief cameo in Trainwreck has already shown him to be ten times the actor that his slam-dunking predecessor was.
The Looney Tunes themselves haven't starred in a feature-length movie since 2003 dud Back in Action, but apart from the generation that grew up loving Space Jam taking their kids to A New Legacy as an excuse to see it themselves, the long-delayed sequel's chances of success are far from nailed-on.
For one thing there's the reported budget of $160m that means it needs to do big business to start turning a profit, but Disney's Cruella and Minions: The Rise of Gru will be dominating the family market before Space Jam 2 even arrives, with Jungle Cruise and Hotel Transylvania 4 landing shortly after to provide even stiffer competition.
