10 Deleted MCU Scenes You Have To See

2. Hulk’s Suicide Attempt - The Incredible Hulk

Bruce Banner references this moment in The Avengers, although it happens slightly differently than he described. Maybe Mark Ruffalo misheard when Ed Norton was explaining everything that had happened so far?

Rather than shoot himself and have ‘the big guy’ spit the the bullet out, Banner instead Hulks out with the gun in his hand and his mighty fists crush it. They both have the same outcome but actually pulling the trigger and spitting the bullet out is much darker.

In the long run then, it might have been better for this scene to get the chop. Not knowing the full depths of Banner’s pain means the moment when he reveals his suicide attempt is all the more powerful in Avengers. Back when this decision was made though, the whole concept of the MCU barely existed, so it’s unlikey they were saving this reveal for later on.

For all Ed Norton was supposed to bring prestige and Louis Leterrier’s direction leaned towards gritty, the movie was still a family feature above all else. A suicide attempt wasn’t exactly fitting with that image.

The Incredible Hulk is a bit of an outsider to the MCU, but this scene is definitely worth a watch.
