10 Deleted Scenes That Explain Confusing Horror Movie Moments
8. The Blair Witch Project - Mike Suggests Leaving The Cameras Behind
The Blair Witch Project, while certainly not the first found footage film to capture imaginations across the world, was one of the most influential films ever made, kicking off a slew of imitation horror movies. While the found footage craze has calmed in recent years, one question that any filmmakers have had to contend with when plotting out their film...is why do the victims film everything?
The Blair Witch Project actually goes toward answering this question, albeit in a deleted scene. Mike, Heather and Joshua discuss what they should do once they discover that they are lost in the forest, with no map. Mike is the practical one. He suggests leaving their things - packs, cameras and all - and hurrying as quickly as possible toward civilisation again.
Heather objects on the grounds that while she has a camera in her hands, she feels like she is being productive and has something to focus on - something to do with her anxiety. They then agree to continue as they were.
The scene is both very short and crucial to understanding why these three ill-fated filmmakers were able to document so much of their last days alive.
