10 Deleted Scenes That Would Have Improved Movies

2. Aliens: Ripley Cries

This is a simple, minute detail that would have made all the difference.

After waking from a 57-year nap, Ripley has to face the harsh reality that awaits her, which includes finding out that her daughter, Amanda, is now dead. In the version released, Ripley takes the news in stride and basically continues to move the plot along. However, a much more powerful reaction to this news wound up on the cutting room floor.

This scene would have had Ripley straight-up lose it and simply cry. It's an incredibly normal reaction that really makes us feel for Ripley and understand her tragedy. Also, it adds thematic weight to her maternal relationship with Newt, seeing just how devastated she is that she wasn't able to be there for her real daughter.

Seeing as the movie is already a bit on the lengthy side, it isn't surprising that the studio would have been looking for ways to trim it down. But maybe next time don't take out one of the most crucial character moments for your main character in the entire franchise that defines every action she makes for the at least the next two films.
