10 Deleted Sci-Fi Movie Scenes You Need To See
1. Back To The Future III - Buford The Killer
The third instalment of Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis’ Back to the Future trilogy was always going to have trouble with tone—that’s what happens when you switch from “comedic time travel sci-fi” original, to “trippy reality-bending sci-fi” sequel, to “Wild West set adventure” threequel. The movie’s move to the old west makes for a lot of laughs and some solid sequences, but it also almost darkened the tone of not only Part III, but the entire franchise.
Buford Tannen, ancestor of Biff and all around bastard, has been cutting a villainous rug throughout the flick before his final showdown with Marty sees him arrested and showered in dung, but the baddie was originally supposed to kill the town sheriff whilst his back was turned—and in front of his young son!
Luckily someone reminded the filmmakers this was Doc Brown’s old west and not Sergio Leone’s and the scene was cut, as the creators realized viewers would want Buford dead after the act—and he needed to survive long enough to spawn old Biff.
