Marc Webb may have had the most opportune name imaginable when he signed up to adapt Amazing Spider-Man with The Social Network’s Andrew Garfield starring in the title role, but the 500 Days of Summer director produced a pair of flicks which, although fine, can’t hold a candle to Sam Raimi’s earlier campy trilogy in terms of originality.

However, the editor’s scissors may actually be the culprit behind the limited emotional impact of the Amazing Spider-Man’s central plot, with a deleted scene focusing on main baddie Rhys Ifans’ Dr. Curt Connors reasoning with the eponymous hero that since he too would never give up his powers by choice, the pair aren’t all that different.

If that touch of moral complexity weren’t enough the film also deleted scenes after their first school-set skirmish wherein Connors sought help from Peter Parker as well as talking to his son, rounding out a character who comes across more one-dimensionally villainous in the final cut.
