10 Deleted Stars That Were Bigger Than The Final Movie
8. Chris Cooper - The Ring
Though her standing's very much changed now, at the time of The Ring's release Naomi Watts was still relatively little-known, with only one starring credit in an indie (Mulholland Drive) to her name. Her Ring co-star Chris Cooper, on the other hand, was a man with years of acting roles big and small under his belt, and around the time of The Ring's release in late 2012 he was on an awards run getting ready to win his first Oscar, for Adaptation. Cooper doesn't appear in the final cut of The Ring, however, despite his part in the original concept of it being fairly crucial, and despite his starriness at the time outshining the rest of the cast. Word has it that Cooper was - ironically - too distractingly famous for test audiences, who thought his appearing in scenes at the beginning and end of the film's early screenings jarring. The film went on wide release minus Cooper, netting $250 mil and putting Watts on the track to Kidman levels of Australian-actress-who-everyone-thinks-is-American type stardom.
Lover of film, writer of words, pretentious beyond belief. Thinks Scorsese and Kubrick are the kings of cinema, but PT Anderson and David Fincher are the dashing young princes. Follow Brogan on twitter if you can take shameless self-promotion: @BroganMorris1
