10 Depressing Things About Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice

5. David Goyer And Zack Snyder Wrote The Story

Look, nobody's saying that David S. Goyer is a terrible screenwriter, but his track record is patchy at best. He may have helped establish Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy with the director, but never wrote a word that wasn't in collaboration with him (and only contributed to the stories of The Dark Knight and TDKR). The work he's done on his own has been incredibly inconsistent, from the solid Blade movies (well, discounting Trinity) to the interminable Goyer-directed The Unborn. On the other hand, Zack Snyder's feature writing credits are limited to the 300 films and his 'dream personal project'/teenage boy fantasy Sucker Punch. And now they've teamed up for the story of Dawn of Justice. Be prepared for never-ending darkness, 'gritty realism' and character-contradicting (but clearly awesome) moments of extreme violence. There is a silver lining, mind: while Goyer was originally supposed to pen the screenplay, due to other commitments he's had to pass the rewriting work onto screenwriter Chris Terrio, known for his Argo script that new Batman actor Ben Affleck directed. Hopefully - if he isn't too hamstrung by Goyer and Snyder's story - Terrio will be able to bring a humour (no, scratch that) and pathos to the film that Man of Steel lacked.
