10 Detestable Movie Villains We Never See

The title character of Alfred Hitchcock's delicious thriller Rebecca never appears in the film because, despite being one of its primary villains, she's already dead when the movie begins.

And yet, her presence haunts the movie and its central characters like a spectre, especially her ex-husband Maxim (Laurence Olivier). As it turns out, his marriage to Rebecca was a sham, as she had no intention of keeping her vows to him.

Moreover, Rebecca was terminally ill and more-or-less provoked Maxim into accidentally killing her, when she hits her head and dies during a heated argument. 

This was all part of her plan to ruin Maxim, who she hated, and if that wasn't enough, she left her close confidante Mrs. Danvers (Judith Anderson) to terrorise Maxim and his new wife following her demise.

And so, while we never see Rebecca in the film, her deplorable scheming makes her incredibly easy to hate regardless.
