10 Diabolical Movie Mistakes You Won't Believe They Made TWICE

5. Splitting The Finale - The Hunger Games: Mockingjay & Twilight: Breaking Dawn

The Harry Potter series has done lots of good things for lots of people, but something it should never be forgiven for is starting the trend of movies based on books splitting their final film in half.

The Deathly Hallows, the seventh book in the series, was released as two separate movies in 2010 and 2011. Twilight, the teen movie adaptation of the books about sexy vampires, promptly followed suit, releasing its final film, Breaking Dawn, in two parts across 2011 and 2012.

Then came The Hunger Games, another young adult sci-fi/fantasy film franchise adapted from popular novels. Its finale, Mockingjay, was also cleaved in two and shoved out in consecutive years.

Potter just about got away with the two-parter thing, but Breaking Dawn and Mockingjay weren’t so lucky. These twin-headed beasts were blatantly understuffed, painfully low on actual content and full of scenes that were clearly just there to pad out the runtime.

This practice was little more than the studios attempting to squeeze as much cash as possible out of an idea with no consideration for what it might do to the actual stories.

Thankfully, this trope has seemingly been retired.
