10 Directions Sony Could Take The Amazing Spider-Man 3
9. ...Or Else Just Continuing On As They Are
Of course, they could also just keep on the track they've set themselves on. The Amazing Spider-Man did fix a lot of the issues with the Raimi-directed trilogy of Spidey films. Andrew Garfield was a much better fit for the character than Tobey Maguire ever was, his chemistry with Emma Stone felt more natural than Maguire and Kirsten Dunst ever managed, and generally the tone felt much more right for the whole thing than the gee-whiz, tongue-in-cheek high budget cheese of the previous bunch of movies. It's still not perfect, but that doesn't mean they can't keep improving on what they've already got. The Amazing Spider-Men have struggled with their bad guys, from Rhys Ifans as the strangely Hulk-ish Lizard to the second film practically spilling over with Dane DeHaan's Green Goblin, Jamie Foxx's Electro and Paul Giamatti as an admittedly delightfully scene-chewing Rhino, but it's done better at realising the world of Peter Parker and providing an ongoing character arc across its films so far. So no, things aren't perfect in the rebooted films (spare us from ever seeing the pantomime German mad scientists ever again), but they could be a lot worse. And who's to say Webb won't have learned from the messiness of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, power forward and wind up making the best Spidey yet with the third in the trilogy...whenever that comes out?
