10 Directions Sony Could Take The Amazing Spider-Man 3
6. Bringing Back Sam Raimi
One of the more surprising twists that came out of that Sony email hack late last month was the revelation that Sony had seemingly gotten cold feet about Marc Webb pretty sharpish. Apparently they considered bringing back Sam Raimi, in either a producing or even directing capacity, sometime after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 landed. Considering how quickly they gave him the boot, he might not've been crazy about coming back. Raimi started off strong in his career, moving from the Evil Dead trilogy of surreal, silly zombie flicks to underrated modern Western The Quick And The Dead before being tapped to bring Spider-Man to the big screen. Even that started off pretty well (with some reservations) before the whole thing got totally run into the ground with the third film, emo Parker, unnecessary Sandman and all. Quality-wise it might have been a steep descent into total rubbish, but the Raimi Spider-Man films did gangbusters at the box office. Before Webb was ushered in to reboot the franchise a fourth film was in the works, apparently featuring John Malkovich playing The Vulture. Perhaps, with the second Webb film a little disappointing and Raimi kicking his heels after Oz And The Powerful, audiences might see that yet.
