10 Directions Sony Could Take The Amazing Spider-Man 3
5. Spider-Women
Another of the mooted spin-off projects to further expand the Spider-Man universe did, at last, actually feature some superheroes. Albeit reluctantly. Much like Marvel, Sony seem reluctant to let a female superhero headline her own solo film. At the very best, they'll get a film where a bunch of them team up and probably will still be relying on Andrew Garfield's sharp wit and floppy fringe to come bail them out of trouble in the end. Imagine, though, if a Spider-Women film was actually good. August of this year saw Sony considering a female-centred spin-off film, to be released in 2017 with Lisa Joy Nolan writing. Not a whole lot more got announced besides those very basic details, and there's been no news of any such film since then, but boy has there been a lot of speculation. Spidey has a lot of supervillains to be potentially spun off into their own movies, but his own supporting cast is pretty great too and significantly woman-centric. The obvious money is on some sort of team up between female superheroes (and villains) who have tangled with Spidey over the years in the comics, with Black Cat sorta introduced Felicity Jones in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - Stunner, Firestar and Silver Sable all potentially in that mix. Or they might finally bring a Spider-Woman to the screen. A lot of people have held that title, though; including, in a recent comic, a Gwen Stacy from an alternate reality. Emma Stone could return after all!
