10 Directions Sony Could Take The Amazing Spider-Man 3

4. Miles Morales, The Ultimate Spider-Man

Then again, Sony might choose to take things in an even more radically different direction than that, and in the process not only get out of the issue of Andrew Garfield's contract (which could be up at any time so far as anyone outside of the studio knows, non-disclosure agreements doing their job and all) and perhaps appealing to a wider, more diverse audience whilst also fully divorcing The Amazing series from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. Presumably that was the thought process behind the major change in the Ultimate Spider-Man comics series a couple of years ago. Designed to be a Spidey book separate from all other continuity, updating classic stories for the modern age and telling them in a way that would be friendly to new readers, Ultimate Spider-Man wound up telling some of the most interesting, inventive and fun web head sagas in the character's history. Then writer Brian Michael Bendis threw everyone a curve ball by having Peter Parker killed off, with the mantle of Spider-Man being picked up by one Miles Morales €“ a much younger half African American, half Latino kid with a slightly different power set and arguably cooler costume. It'd be a heck of a ballsy move for Sony, but one that might very well pay off. And may allow audiences to finally see Donald Glover as Spider-Man.
