10 Directions Sony Could Take The Amazing Spider-Man 3

3. An Animated Movie

Another particularly tantalising piece of information about the future of the Spider-Man film franchise that came out of Sony's email hack was that the studio had apparently been courting LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller to work on a project for them. They're no strangers to superhero fare, with Batman in that film being amongst the greatest on-screen incarnations for his theme song alone, and the sense of humour they displayed in 21 and 22 Jump Street gels with Garfield's. Even more interesting than simply that teaming up of brilliant, hilarious and visionary directors with a character they're clearly well suited to, however, was what exactly the project was that Sony had in mind for Lord and Miller. Rightfully impressed by their work on The LEGO Movie and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, apparently they were being considered for an animated Spider-Man comedy. Apparently it was just in a producer capacity, but given that they're also producing a sequel to The LEGO Movie and potentially a LEGO Batman film that a) doesn't sound totally out of the blue and b) doesn't sound like they'd have time for a whole lot else. Which is a shame, because Lord and Miller rock, and some of the best Spideys have been animated. There's still hope!
