Sofia Coppola hasn't let her famous surname define her, and she's forged her own very successful career as a filmmaker, avoiding being stuck in her father's shadow in the process. An unconventional choice in many ways due to the fact that she's never helmed a big budget blockbuster (though that doesn't bother studios in the least these days it seems), Coppola is a smart director who would bring a lot to the table for any superhero movie. When it comes to Spider-Man though, The Bling Ring is a good example of her being able to work with younger actors and portray a realistic look at their lives, while she has a unique visual flair which could work wonderfully with a contemporary take on Peter Parker's teenage years. It's also worth noting that Coppola seems to enjoy creating strong female characters, something the previous Spider-Man movies have desperately needed. If she brings Emma Watson along with her for a key role (Mary Jane), then all the better!
