Matthew Vaughn turned Kick-Ass into a box office hit, made the X-Men amazing again with X-Men: First Class, and turned a good comic book into an exceptional movie with Kingsman: The Secret Service. After coming close to directing Thor for Marvel Studios a number of years ago, he has yet to work with them, and handing him they keys to the Spider-Man franchise is arguably exactly what it needs to become as great as it once was. The movies above barely scratch the surface of Vaughn's incredible filmography, but they all show an experience of working with young actors and turning them into household names. Who were Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloe Moretz before Vaughn ended up getting his hands on them? It's a director like this who could take a relative unknown in the next Spider-Man movie and get them to deliver a performance which makes them a star. Of course, if Vaughn being hired means that he brings Kingsman's Taron Egerton with him to play Spider-Man, then his hiring just wouldn't be able to get any more perfect. Well, unless he and Jane Goldman also wrote the thing. Then you have a bona fide masterpiece.
