There's dreams and then there's dreams. You know the rule about how all the even-numbered Star Trek films are good, and the odd-numbered are naff? Nicholas Meyer is the writer-director behind three of the best even-numbered entries in the Star Trek film series: six (The Undiscovered Country), four (The Voyage Home) and inarguably the best Trek film full stop (number two, The Wrath Of Khan). He's a fan favourite for a reason, and could there be a better PR move than hiring him for Star Trek 3? The possibility of the third in the reboot trilogy being that good might break the even/odds rule, but fans will probably dismiss that if it means they can get another Meyer movie. Especially because the director seems to sympathise with those more sceptical about Into Darkness. Anyway, what better to get those who didn't think much of the Khan revelation in the last film on side than the man who made that character who he was? Not to mention that Meyer is a very good director, although one who hasn't been behind the camera in a while. If he's going to return, though, he couldn't have a better stage.
