Then again, maybe it'd make more sense for Paramount (who are probably not wanting to take any chances after losing both Abrams and Orci) to go for a director with a proven track record in live action. It'd be nice if Andrew Stanton got another chance, but Joseph Kosinski would probably be a safer bet. He'd get the visual style down pat, whilst also potentially bringing something new and interesting to Star Trek as he's tried to bring to the genre as a whole. At first blush Kosinksi looked to be part of the current trend of hiring new directors based solely on style over substance, what with his substantial experience in CGI and commercial work (like that Gears Of War Mad World advert). You could've been forgiven for thinking that based on his feature debut, too, with Tron: Legacy turning out to be a very pretty but ultimately empty viewing experience. Except he followed that up with Oblivion, a surprisingly thoughtful sci-fi flick that paid homage to the philosophical seventies likes of Silent Running. Plus it looked absolutely gorgeous, had some neat narrative twists, and Kosinski coaxed one of Tom Cruise's first great performances for a long time. He might just be the one to handle a new Star Trek, too.
