10 Directors Who Need To Get Back On The Big Screen
2. John McTiernan
The man made Die Hard, which is reason enough for him to be ushered back in to the Hollywood fold with open arms, free beer and slaps on the back. McTiernan hasn't made a film since 2003's Basic for two reasons: firstly, he was in jail. McTiernan spent a year behind bars from early 2013, only getting released in February of this year, though he was steadily in and out of court since 2006. The second reason is probably Rollerball, the 2002 remake about the violent deadly sport, which makes Gigli look like Gone With The Wind. Aside from Rollerball though, even McTiernan's flops are good, fun, films. The problems surrounding Last Action Hero and its budgetary blow-out is infamous around Hollywood, but the film remains an under-appreciated gem. Redemption does appear to be in store for McTiernan with his name tied to Red Squad, apparently set for a 2014 release (despite it still being in pre-production), and if he can capture previous form we may finally see John McClain in a film good enough to banish from memory the travesties that were four and five; and for that McTiernan must return.
