10 Directors Who Need To Get Back On The Big Screen

3. Gaspar Noe

It has been five years since Gaspar Noe unleashed the acid-like head trip that is Enter The Void, and before that he gave us the violent and disturbing Irreversible in 2002, which shocked and sickened audiences alike with its nine-minute unflinching rape scene. Controversial to say the least, Irreversible is a film that stays with you long after it ends - if you even make it to the finish, but Noe is not just a director who deals in gruesome brutality and shock value. What makes his films so hard to swallow is the horror depicted in them often feels very real. Noe has a gift for making the audience live the moments of his characters. As such his films suck you in, often to brutal and unsettling worlds. He challenges you, and his camera shows you the bits that other directors might shy away from, revelling in the power of these moments. We need this type of director, who doesn't sugar coat the moments we don't want to see. He never allows his film to fall into the realm of farce however, and believability remains a core element in his work. Even as we float in a world between life and death: as seen in Enter The Void. With his name attached to a project entitled Love, hopefully it will not be too long until we see the next installment of Noe's career.

Sean ONeil hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
