10 Directors Who Need To Get Back On The Big Screen

1. David Lynch

It has been eight years since Lynch produced a full-length cinematic piece, and another view of his take on the strange and absurd. Inland Empire was released in 2006 and since then Lynch has stayed away from the big screen. The reasons why Lynch needs to get back to directing are many. He is a behemoth of the avant-garde, and within the universe of his creations lie some of the greatest characters to grace our screens. Willem Dafoe's turn as Bobby Peru in Wild At Heart is perhaps only outdone in menacing creepiness by the literally oxygen-sucking performance of Dennis Hopper as Frank Booth in Blue Velvet. Forget that Lynch is an Oscar winning director with The Elephant Man; focus on his surreal, head-scratching masterpiece Mulholland Drive; think of his low budget horrifying debut Eraserhead. Away from the camera Lynch has embarked on collaborative efforts, releasing a visual narrative (or book) to accompany the album Dark Night Of The Soul. He made a memorable two-part appearance on Louie and for some reason or another became a recurring voice actor in The Cleveland Show. None of these projects however (even The Cleveland Show) bring to the world Lynch's eye for the odd. A true original, eight years is too long for Lynch to be away from the camera. With seemingly nothing in the works who knows when we will next see the true auteur of 'Lynchian' cinema. Which directors do you want to see active after a hiatus? Sean ONeil hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
