10 Directors Who Are Locked In Movie Jail

3. Martin Brest

The Director: Martin Brest gave the world Beverly Hills Cop and Midnight Run, and his main talent was character driven comedy. When he was having a good day he was near unbeatable; when he was having a bad one he could make Meet Joe Black and Gigli. The Crime: Brest found himself in the perfect storm of terrible with Gigli, which starred former power couple Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez. The press was baying for their blood, and Brest handed it to them in a nicely wrapped package. The film was an abomination, with terrible performances from the couple and a complete absence of any form of humour. It was a huge flop, and the studio was so desperate to recoup their money they used the bad reviews on the poster to encourage people to watch it ironically. It didn€™t work. The Sentence: Brest went into his cell quietly, and there hasn€™t been a peep out of him since. He hasn€™t written or directed anything else or even shown up for interviews. He seems to have quietly retired after the Gigli debacle, and can't be bothered with the drama that goes with making movies.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
