4. Darren Aronofsky
Another man previously attached to the Batman franchise, Aronofsky is a wild card. His previous proposal for a Batman film is one of the single strangest things you will read. Loosely based on Batman Year One, it is...weird. Like, Bruce Wayne is homeless weird, and babies get their eyes gorged out weird. Weird. Still, if he were to propose a more straight forward Batman film that didn't laugh at the comic book origins, then we could potentially see some of the most tormented, tragic superhero characters on screen ever. As mentioned before, the core of Batman's universe is his cast of characters. Some are heroic, others not so much. All of them are tortured, with twisted, distorted psyches and obsessions. Imagine Aronofsky's Two-Face. And, best of all, unlike more grounded directors, Aronofsky isn't afraid to get fantastic. Watch Black Swan or The Fountain. Or even Pi, his first film. All of them incorporate fantasy into their otherwise realistic plots, and yet make it work all the same. Sure, in Black Swan it's all in her head, but the Fountain? Not so much. Imagine, again, how he could do Mr. Freeze...
