Québécois filmmaker Denis Villeneuve has quickly risen to become one of the most critically acclaimed directors around, having made a splash with his English language films Prisoners, Sicario and Arrival. Villeneuve has shown that he is a genre hopper of a director, all his movies are different.

Prisoners was a dark and twisted mystery about a father pushed to the edge, Sicario, a violent crime thriller that showed what Villeneuve with action and recently earned praise for his most recent film Arrival, getting a 93% Rotten Tomatoes rating.

Arrival took the most realistic approach to the idea first contact and there was a lot of spectacle and grandeur and it takes a special kind of talent for someone to make a film about linguistics compelling. Villeneuve has confidence with big special effects and his work on Prisoners and Enemy shows he can handle complicated plots and character relationships - useful skills for anyone directing an X-Men film.

Villeneuve is also a fan of the sci-fi genre, his next film is the sequel to Blade Runner which seems a lot more promising because of his work on Arrival and he was considered to direct Terminator Genisys before Alan Taylor got the job. Villeneuve has also stated he would like to direct a Bond film. It is easy to imagine that studios would want him to start one of their franchises.
